COERR Mae Hong Son and Kanchanaburi Organized Workshop on Assessment of Para Social Worker Training

COERR Mae Hong Son organized Workshop on Assessment of Para Social Worker training at Ban Mai Nai Soi Temporary Shelter, Mae Hong Son Province’s Mueang District, on August 23, 2022 for 17 camp-based refugee staff of 16 females and 1 male, and at Ban Mae Surin on September 6, 2022, for 7 CBRS of 4 females and 3 males.

COERR Kanchanaburi organized the same Workshop during September 27-28, 2022, in which 5 camp-based refugee staff of 1 female and 4 males attended. The workshop had Camp-based refugee staff (CBRS) reviewed their para-social work during 2020-2022, in which they expressed that they were proud that they acquired a lot of skills from their work in observation, questioning, interviewing and home visit. They were proud that they used their skills to help and protect the vulnerable groups, especially children and elderly in need. They coordinated with all organizations in communities to make the communities better.

Their work and training have changed them to become skillful staff in home visit, children activities, observation and assessment in child protection, record keeping and reporting as well as coordinating with other community organizations concerned.

Additionally, they requested more coaching about case management, effective recording and reporting technique, leadership skills, social work and child protection assessment, etc.

For recommendation and feedback to the project, they suggested that there should be on going social work training of camp-based refugee staff as they need to be equipped with strong social work skills for their daily work. Experienced Project Staff should work closely and take part in home visit in order to give advice to para-social workers. Discussion should be made with staff from other fields for information sharing and motivation enhancement.

At the end of the workshop, Para Social Workers assessed their colleagues’ work performance. Each of them mentioned about their colleagues’ outstanding skills that benefit the work. The praise and compliment had empowered each other and created unity amongst para social workers to continue to work for the vulnerable target groups in the community.
